Fair Processing Notice
What happens to your information when we approach lenders on your behalf, and what credit reference and fraud prevention agencies do with it.
Last updated: September 2026
Why we are telling you this
To arrange finance we have to share information about you, your business and its directors with lenders, and with credit reference and fraud prevention agencies. This notice explains what that involves. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy and should be read with it.
Searches we carry out
Before you commit. When you use the funding score on this website, or ask us for an indication, we look at publicly filed information at Companies House and at business information held by credit reference agencies. These checks do not leave a footprint that affects your credit score.
When you ask us to proceed. Once you tell us to approach lenders, we and the lenders we approach will carry out credit searches on the business and, where a personal guarantee is being considered, on its directors or proprietors. These searches are recorded. Several applications in a short period can affect how other lenders view you โ which is why we submit to a shortlist rather than the whole panel.
We will always tell you before a recorded search is carried out.
Credit reference agencies
The agencies we and our lenders use include Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. They give us information about the business and, where relevant, about directors as individuals. They keep a record of our search.
Where a personal guarantee is involved, the agency will link the records of anyone named as financially associated with you, and that link stays until one of you asks for it to be broken and the agency agrees.
Each agency publishes a Credit Reference Agency Information Notice describing what they do with your information and the rights you have. You can read it at experian.co.uk/crain, equifax.co.uk/crain or transunion.co.uk/crain.
Fraud prevention agencies
We and our lenders may share your information with fraud prevention agencies, and may use information they hold, to prevent fraud and money laundering. If fraud is detected you may be refused finance, insurance, or other services, and a record may be kept by those agencies and used by other organisations.
Fraud prevention agencies may keep your personal information for up to six years, and may transfer it outside the UK under appropriate safeguards. You have the right to ask them what they hold about you.
Lenders we approach
We approach lenders selected for your circumstances, and we tell you who they are. Once your information reaches a lender, that lender becomes an independent controller of it and will handle it under its own privacy policy, including for its own credit risk, regulatory and fraud prevention purposes. We will point you to the relevant policy on request.
If you do not want us to share your information
You can tell us at any time to stop. We will not approach lenders without your instruction, and you can withdraw that instruction before a proposal is submitted. Bear in mind that we cannot arrange finance without sharing the information a lender needs to assess it.
